The company was started in 1996 by Nigel Moorhouse. Having guided for other companies, and seeing how expensive tours were
he decided to start a tour operation with the emphasis on value-for-money, without sacrificing quality. In the following years,
the company has become especially successful in East Africa, where it offers birding tours which are often
half the price of competitors.
These savings are achieved by keeping overheads to a minimum, and wherever possible, using some of the best in-country
guides available. Nigel not only keeps the company running, he also guides, designs and produces the brochures and website, and
liaises on all tour arrangements.
In 2003, Nigel began ventures with Rockjumper in South Africa, and also with Fatbirder, to offer joint tours keeping within the spirit
of Sarus.
In 2005, this spirit of co-operation has extended to working with Toucan Tours and Birding Africa.

Ground Price
The price for all services from arrival in the country concerned to departure. Includes all meals, accommodation, transport, bottled water (if necessary), and guidance, unless specified.
International Flights are excluded
Price in Sterling
Price in US Dollars
Price in Euros
Dates
From arrival in the country concerned to the day of departure. Preferred flights will be
advised once the group is formulated. Our groups are multinational, and clients are advised not to book
flights until we fully confirm the tour.
The number of birding days is given as an indication of the 'real' tour length
Max Group Size
We may occasionally extend this by one person, but only if this does not
affect the tour party detrimentally. No minimum group size is given. Most tours will run with 3 or
more, and the ANYTIME tours are mostly designed to cater from 2 upwards.
Tour Leader
An expert birder, with experience of tour guiding. On hand to assist with
tour logistics, as well as identifying birds. There is occasionally the need to change leaders
(mostly due to illness), for which a substitute with similar experience will be provided.
Itinerary
The day-to-day plan. Individual hotels are provided once the tour is confirmed. Occasionally the
itinerary will be altered slightly, based on the latest information from the country, but the basic number of days at each site will
generally be maintained.
Accommodation
Most hotels used are of excellent quality. Some days, more basic accommodation is used if that
is the best available in the area, or if it provides better birdwatching opportunities.
Weather
The basic range of weather is given as a guide to the type of clothing required.
Health
Standard refers to tetanus, polio, diptheria and typhoid vaccinations. Additional requirements are given, but we advise consultation with your doctor
for the most up-to-date information.
Documents
If a visa is required this will be stated. None refers to a Full Passport with at least 6 months' validity. This information is for British Passport Holders only.
